Career Academies
| Partnering with ESU 6 member school districts and Southeast Community College, ESU 6 has created the Southeast Nebraska Career Academy Partnership (SENCAP). SENCAP gives students more opportunities to learn about careers and earn dual college credit while still in high school. Offered to junior and senior high school students, SENCAP provides real world opportunities to over 30 school districts. SENCAP is a unique program that is the first of its kind in the state of Nebraska. Students in the academies will receive valuable insight into the field of their choice. The classes are developed to allow students the opportunity to learn through interaction with business professionals, professors, and other high school students. Students will also be able to receive valuable experience through job-shadowing opportunities. Students who participate in the academies will receive both high school and college credit for the classes they successfully complete. A maximum of 18 quarter hours or 12 college semester hours can be earned through the program. All tuition expenses for the program will be paid for through an agreement between local school districts and Southeast Community College. Currently, SENCAP offers 6 career academies for students to choose from -- Business, Education, Medical/Health Sciences, Industrial/Manufacturing and Engineering Systems, Agriculture, and Information Technology. SENCAP hopes to introduce new and expand its career academies to give students more opportunities in interested areas of study. Students can take advantage of the opportunities provided by SENCAP by talking with their high school counselor when registering for the next school year or by contacting a Regional SENCAP Coordinator.
