Early Childhood

ESU 6 offers a variety of services to young children, parents, teachers, and childcare providers. ESU 6 promotes early childhood education by working directly with young children (age 0 to 5) and providing professional development opportunities for parents, teachers, and childcare providers. Early Childhood Region 6 Planning Team (ECR6PT)

Region 6 Early Childhood Planning Team meets throughout the academic year. The mission of the Region 6 Early Childhood Planning Team is "to promote a coordinated system of early childhood services." Through the coordinated efforts of private and public agencies, the ESU 6 Service Coordinators, and the Region 6 Early Childhood Planning Team, the team strives to meet the needs of children below the age of 5 who qualify for special education services through the local public schools.  Early Development Network

The Early Development Network provides services coordination at no charge to families with children age 0 to 3 who qualify for special education. In addition, free special education services are available from the local school district depending on the child's needs. Services Coordination and special education are provided year round to assure that young children have continuous services.

ESU 6 employs Services Coordinators who help families:

► Find services to meet developmental, educational, financial, health care, child care,
     respite care and other needs.

► Become coordinators of services for their own children in the future.

► Link with needed services

► Work with multiple providers to make sure services are provided as needed.

Southeast Early Learning Connection (ELC)

 ESU 6 coordinates its efforts with ESU 4, ESU 5, and Lincoln Public Schools to provide the Southeast Early Learning Connection (ELC). The mission of ELC is to build an effective, coordinated system for preparing, supporting, and recognizing the early childhood care and education workforce in order to provide high quality programs for young children and their families. Serving southeast Nebraska, the ELC provides professional development opportunities for parents, childcare providers, and pre-school teachers.

TYKE (Talking for Young Kids Education)

The TYKE program is designed to provide children with disabilities age 2 to 6 opportunities to develop communication, social and preliteracy skills in a classroom setting with peer students.


TYKE program is located in Geneva, Nebraska, and consists of four classrooms in Fillmore Central elementary. The classroom teachers for TYKE are Deb Bennett, SLP and ECSE, Kristi Most, ECSE, Pat Sudrla, ECSE, and Shaunna O'Brien, Early Childhood.
