The annual ESU 6 Middle School General Knowledge Quiz Bowl was held in Seward at the Living Word Lutheran Church on Wednesday, March 26th in an all-day event. The morning offered seven rooms of competition with teams competing in round robin play to warm up for the afternoon’s single elimination tournament.
Orange juice, milk, and donuts were offered to all the participants prior to the tourney -compliments of ESU 6 and hosted by Linda Kolterman.
The Quiz Bowl teams were divided into three size categories, with three tournaments going at one time - Large, Medium and Small Schools and the winners included -

3rd Seward – Coach Laura Trautman
4th York – Coach Grant Hollinger
Medium School Division -
1st Malcolm - Coach Jeff Donahue
2nd Centennial - Coach Laura Pulliam
3rd Heartland - Coach Carrie Regier
4th Heartland - Coach Carrie Regier
Small School Division -
1st Friend - Coach Lori Klooz
2nd Exeter-Milligan - Coach Jordan Marr
3rd Dorchester - Coach Sandy Severance
4th Shickley - Coach Scott Shipley
Schools with teams in the contest included Centennial, Crete, Dorchester, Exeter-Milligan, Friend, Heartland, Malcolm, McCool Junction, Milford, Norris, Our Redeemer-Staplehurst, Seward, Shickley, Wilber-Clatonia, and York.
Riley Nuttleman served as the Quiz Bowl Master for the tournament, assisted by ESU 6 Representative Sydney Bristol. Clark Kolterman assisted in the coordination of the event. Readers for the contest included Kathy Wilcox of Crete, Nancy and Stan Meyer of Geneva, Nancy Schulz, Sue Imig and Andy Jensen of Seward, and Ellie Janda of Beaver Crossing.
A pizza lunch was offered to the coaches, bus drivers and judges during the noon hour, hosted by Linda Kolterman-featuring Valentino’s Pizza.
Following the event, trophies and medals were presented to the top two winners in each of the three divisions.
